MITRA MEDUSA INR I
Kalte Farben
review] In Mitra Medusa Inri -
Kalte Farben Kalte Farben is the new release from IMMI,
released on Apollyon on the 13th of this month and the
sixth full album from this most enduring German band.
The first thing that's immediately
apparent is a fair chunk of the album is in the band's
Native tongue rather than all in English. This is no such
bad thing, broadening the appeal and being more comfortable
for all concerned. It also adds the to the polished appeal
of the album overall.
Opener, 'Nimm die Lugen von mir'
eases us in gently, the keyboard lines and deep vocals
carry the track, with an extra voice and piano permeating
throughout. The first track in English, 'Why can't you
sing at daylight' , lets the darkwave sounds, mixed with
subtle guitars carry the song, before moving up a gear,
and again the dual vocals work well., to create a great
song. 'Keine Fragen' typifys the strength of IMMI, the
darkwave sounds, mix with clean guitar lines, extremely
catchy and one to set the dancefloor on fire, the guitars
powerful but not overpowering, and an instant classic.
'Come On' follows, haunting synths combine with the deep
vocals, before moving up in pace, giving a chance for
the guitars to shine once more. Like earlier Diary of
Dreams, Clan of xymox or even Suspiria, IMMI, use their
instruments intelligently which hooks the listener but
doesn' t pummell them, letting the sounds fully absorb.
'Nur fur die eine Minute', is another case of this, whilst
'One last time' , starts slowly, mesmering, this seems
a little darker, menacing and infinitely more powerful,
the guitar lines used to great effect, with the drum rhythms
and synth lines. 'Komm ins licht' hooks you from the off,
the guitar lines, running cleverly alongside the vocals,
with choral effects and a driving rhythm sweeping you
along. 'How come I can tell you', is another that combines
the subtle instrumentation with deep vocals, whilst 'An
Ocean calls you' is infinitely more powerful, the darkwave
sounds, interweaved with guitars carried along by the
deep clear vocals, a fine way to end..... But it's not.
Bonus 'Sag mirwo die Blumen sind' has minimal instrumentation
and an almost spoken voice, and is totally unlike all
that's gone before. The 2nd unnamed bonus track is much
the same, low key with the voice carrying the song and
minimal instrumentation carrying the song.
So overall another class outing
from this well established band, they've long since had
the songs. However, on this release it would have been
good to have more of the faster songs like Keine Fragen
included on here to really set the dancefloor alive. That
aside this is well recommended for fans of Diary of Dreams,
Clan of Xymox, Escape with Romeo, Suspiria and anymore
who appreciates quality Darkwave sounds.
